Fifty? Nifty!

I'm aware that subscribers come and subscribers go. I'm a stats geek, so I've watched the numbers rise and fall over the last two months.

This morning, however, I was pleased to see that for the first time my subscriber number topped 50. Fifty-two, to be exact.

I know that a large portion of my "audience" is the musicians who create the music, along with a small handful of friends who humor my appreciation of the music and my need to do the DJ thing. But it's nice to know that there's interest and it's growing. Helps me keep at it!

If you're one of the 50 or so, drop me an e-mail and let me know you're listening: hypnagogue [at] hotmail.com

And thank you.

Hypnagogue Podcast 7

90 minutes of drifting spacemusic, lush ambient constructs and a little bit of groove.

This time around it's a collection of tracks from CDs I've gotten for review within the last three months, plus a couple of tracks I grabbed online. Enjoy work from Forrest Fang's amazing new CD, Phantoms; a quiet reflection from Mara's Torment; intriguing guitar textures, first from Silvercord and then Sleeping Me, in two very different styles; a folk-inspired track from Vox Populi!; club-worthy beats and deep construction from DJ Cybo; and flat-out improv funk from earWorm. A short break and then things get quiet with ambient guitar from Strom Noir;a meditative passage on a well-filtered and processed harmonium from a collaboration between Igneous Flame and Distubed Earth (followed by a solo piece from Igneous); an excerpt from a drone by Visitor; and our closing track, a complex musical equation from Ian Boddy & Markus Reuter.

Back in two weeks with more. As always, your comments are welcome via e-mail.

Keeping Good Company.

Friends: Beginning this Wednesday evening, August 12th, the Hypnagogue podcast will be available as part of the streaming audio schedule at stillstream.com.

I've been a fan of stillstream for a couple of years now. If you're not familiar with it--and you should be--it's a 24/7 streaming repository of amazing ambient music. There are several live slots hosted by very talented and knowledgable folks like Stephen Philips, Tange, Vir Unis, Mike Metlay and more. And when they're not on, the tireless Wally the Ambient Robot takes the helm, picking from a staggering number of tracks from an impressive array of artists to keep the flow going.

The stillstream thang will just be the existing podcasts replayed via the station, but it should open up a bit more of an audience for the work. And who knows--if I ever get around to upgrading my setup, there could be a live show in the future.

Please tune in this Wednesday night at 8 pm CDT for the first installment. And be sure to bookmark stillstream.com. You'll be glad you did.

peace & power,
John

Hypnagogue Podcast 6

Immerse yourself in 90 minutes of ambient & electronic music.

Transmission begins deep in beat-driven territory, surrounded by noise, bass and percussion. As the flow smoothes and eases forward, we float through new lands of sun-shimmering sound and towering electronic constructs. We find a still pool and spend a few moments there. A wave of guitars leaves us in the company of a lonely piano. The journey moves outward to the stars. We drift, warmed by a cocoon of sound, to discover a tribal planet beneath an alien sun. We ride home on a dancing white dragon and close with a long, calming meditation.

Enjoy. Comments welcome.
